How Solar Gear Spot researches guides

We separate published specifications, desk research, direct testing, and assumptions so readers can see what supports a guide without digging through a wall of caveats.

Evidence labels

Spec check

Manufacturer specifications and published technical documentation were compared; no hands-on testing is implied.

Research guide

Published documentation and practical sizing math were reviewed; no hands-on testing is implied.

Hands-on review

Findings include direct use of the product under the conditions described in the guide.

Long-term test

Findings include repeated direct use over the period described in the guide.

Sources and verification

When a guide has a detailed source record, it lists the source title, publisher, link, and the date we accessed it. A last-verified date means the guide's material claims and cited specifications were checked on that date. An updated date records a page change and does not automatically mean every source was rechecked.

Assumptions and math

Material estimates are called out as assumptions rather than presented as product facts. Sizing math uses stated inputs such as watts, hours, duty cycle, conversion loss, and reserve. Calculator results are planning estimates, not guaranteed runtime or production.

Authorship and review

Named authors and reviewers appear only when they are attached to the article's editorial record. Otherwise, the byline stays with Solar Gear Spot instead of assigning a person who did not do the work.

Hands-on claims

We use hands-on or long-term labels only when direct test notes support them. Reading a manual, comparing listings, or running specification math does not count as hands-on use.

Updates and commercial links

When a material specification or conclusion changes, we update the guide and its dates as appropriate. Affiliate relationships do not change the evidence label or turn desk research into product testing. See the affiliate disclosure for how commercial links are handled.
